Stories - William Francis Skally

At 657 Grand Ave there is a statue in honor of William Francis Skally, Bill’s father who provided a positive influence on the entire family. William F. Skally was a beat cop in the nearby Rondo neighborhood for 32 years. He gained a reputation for compassion and fairness from the community. The statue was carved April 2007 by Dennis Roghair (http://www.sculpturebyroghair.com). The plaque next to the statue reads:

William Frances Skally 1908-1989 St. Paul Police Officer 1941-1973 Officer Skally would often buy winter boots for children who did not have any. A beat cop in the old Rondo neighborhood. A true community police officer.
